New Enhancements in the Spring 2022 Dynamics 365 Business Central Release Wave 1
In the latest release of Dynamics 365 Business Central, Microsoft continues to invest in improvements that can help you be more productive, faster. The new features and minor fixes in the Wave 1 release will roll out between April and September 2022. We think you’ll like this update that focuses on simplifying administration actions and fine-tuning daily functionality.
Like previous bi-annual updates, Microsoft continues to consider key system enhancement ideas users share on the Business Central Ideas Forum. We encourage all Business Central users to suggest improvements in this forum and vote for other posted ideas. Microsoft is listening!

An Improved Service and Platform for Your Business
Business Central’s latest release delivers seamless service, optimized finance and supply chain capabilities, and new features designed to streamline system licensing and administration. Your system’s navigation menus have been simplified. The modernized ‘Help Pane’ has been expanded and will include helpful, go-to resources such as Microsoft-hosted and partner-hosted content, as well as teaching tips with clickable links to documentation and other in-app information pages.
Collaborative business processes have been improved in Microsoft Teams, Excel, and Outlook add-ins. You can look forward to enhanced reporting abilities with new Excel layouts to help you even further with your business productivity. The latest changes make onboarding your team easier. Power Automate capacities have also been improved, which means setting up workflows for your organization’s specific needs will be easier.
This update has also made Business Central available in even more countries internationally.
New & Planned Highlights
Governance & Administration: This release provides a set of administration and governance capabilities to help your IT team and system admins set up, secure, manage, and monitor user environments. Additionally, Microsoft has developed error messages to include more details and support information.
Application: Business Central offers new features for some of your most requested improvements in this area. Microsoft has invested in better reporting, improved control of deferral postings, refined the dimensions experience by allowing default dimensions on locations, and multiple improvements to the supply chain area.
Modern Clients: The latest release focuses on providing enhanced accessibility, usability, performance, and stability for modern Business Central users.
Reporting: Microsoft knows this is a top priority for many business operators—to get insight into new growth opportunities and share data for business planning discussions. This release delivers a better reporting experience and enhancements to the account schedules capability. Power BI analytics have also been enhanced to enable more Power BI dashboards to be displayed on the home page.
Microsoft Power Platform: You can expect better integration with Microsoft Dataverse and Microsoft Power Platform to help you be more productive and self-sufficient with easier-to-use Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI with Business Central. It’s now more intuitive to trigger a Power Automate flow from specific Business Central pages. This means you can add more Power BI dashboards to your home page to get critical business insights faster.
Better with Microsoft 365: Microsoft has invested in stronger integration with Excel and extended Excel layout capabilities. Support for collaborative business processes in Teams has also been improved, so you can now move Business Central pages into a Teams channel.
Service & Platform: Performance in this area is a priority in every release. In this wave, you can expect more business insights with a new in-product performance advisor and in-client performance profiler. Rendering time and data entry functions have also been enhanced.
Onboarding: One of the primary aims of this release is to make onboarding new users faster and simpler. Previous updates have allowed uniform onboarding experiences at scale. Following that, you and/or your Business Central partner can now use a combination of in-product features, such as the Get Started checklist, teaching tips, configuration packages, and assisted setups to help you get your system set up without any headaches. Business Central will provide quicker access to context-specific content. In this way, the learning curve is flattened, and you’ll be guided in personalizing Business Central to your unique needs.
